The Beach Rangers Academy develops and delivers bespoke training to enhance the life skills of young people and community members.

The academy is FREE and allows you to get involved in whatever capacity suites you but you can work your way through you Bronze, Silver and Gold. The training covers a large variety of topics from Beach Safety to Sustainability.

There are three levels to the Beach Rangers Academy, bronze, silver and gold. The programme is flexible around your own interests and time.

Bronze

We want you to be inspired to volunteer, so if there’s something you want to get involved with, then you can.

What’s involved?

  • Life Hacking: 3 training sessions (minimum)
  • Getting Involved: 15 hours volunteering (minimum)
  • IFit: 2 days training and 15 hours healthy activities (minimum)
  • Get On It: Attend an event

Silver

Make your Silver award more bespoke to fit your goals!

What’s involved?

  • Life Hacking: 3 higher level training sessions (minimum)
  • Getting Involved: 25 hours volunteering (minimum)
  • IFit: 1 day training and 25 hours healthy activities (minimum)
  • Get On It: Support at an event

Gold

Make your Gold award enhance your career prospects

What’s involved?

  • Life Hacking: 4 higher level training sessions (minimum)
  • Getting Involved: 40 hours volunteering (minimum)
  • IFit: 3 days training and 40 hours healthy activities (minimum)
  • Get On It: Run an event

We want you to be inspired to volunteer, so if there’s something you want to get involved with, then you can.

If you’re unsure, here’s a few ideas:

Get involved with your local Your Shore Network group and help with beach cleans, rockpool events, organising surveys and talks. You can help out at other local clubs of your choice, like Scouts, Duke of Edinburgh, a sports team, youth groups, homeless charities or mental health charities.

Life Hacking

What is Life Hacking?

Bespoke life skills training such as;

  • How to make money
  • First aid training
  • Talk, teach train and Train the Teacher
  • Keeping safe/Internet Safety
  • Beach lifeguard
  • Geo-caching
  • Foraging
  • ORCA
  • Marine Mammal Medica
  • Any other reliant training you are interested in!

Get on it

This is where you get your hands dirty and get to lead on an event or project!

Bronze

Spend a day at the beach or on the coast taking part in an event. This could be a beach clean, surf event, music event, lifeboat day etc.

Silver

Support a voluntary group at an event.

Gold

Lead a team to organise and host an event for a local charity/voluntary group.

IFit

Keep fit and healthy!

What is iFit?

We’re not asking you to run a marathon, just to engage in physical activity for a healthy body and mind.

Log your hours of well-being and fitness activities which can include;

Running, walking, dance, fitness classes, kite flying, dog walking, football, rugby, SUP, badminton, horse riding, surfing, skateboarding, rollerskating and swimming. Or any activity you enjoy!

Do I have to do it all?

Beach Rangers has been designed to allow you to take part in a capacity that suits you. We want you to enjoy being a Beach Ranger and build your skills, as well as doing great work for the environment.

How much time is involved?

You can take part in a way that suits you.  Individual training sessions can be certified.

But if you want to complete the Beach Rangers programme, there is a minimum amount of time you need to commit.

Bronze = 15 hours volunteering and 15 hours well-being activity

Silver = 25 hours volunteering and 15 hours well-being activity

Gold = 40 hours volunteering and 15 hours well-being activity

What volunteering can I do?

There’s a whole load of activities you can do like beach cleans, helping out at youth groups and supporting charities.

There are also local marine conservation groups established around Cornwall who are always on the look out for volunteers.

What iFit activities can I do?

Anything that gets you out and active! 

For example, there’s running, walking, dance, fitness classes, kite flying, dog walking, football, rugby, SUP, badminton, horse riding, surfing, skateboarding, rollerskating and swimming.

What training can I do?

There’s loads of different training covering a range of interests, and if you find something your interested in doing we can help you sign up!

Stuff like first aid, STEM training, how to make money, volunteer training with BDMLR or the Marine Strandings Network. There’s so much to choose from. 

Why do I need to volunteer?

When it comes to UCAS or job applications, it’s important to stand out from the crowd. Volunteering can help you do this. It helps you get a foot in the door as it improves employability, gives you an opportunity to meet new people and network, boosts your CV, helps you understand time management and makes people feel better.
